I’m delighted to welcome back to Kent for the THIRD time my friend and fellow countryman Dean Owens with his band The Southerners who are currently on tour following Deans return from a well recieved trip to The States and in support we have another class songwriter local troubadour the inimitable Jack Pound.
Dean Owens & The Southerners
Award winning Scottish troubadour Dean Owens with the Southerners – 2018 Instrumentalist of the Year (AMA-UK Awards) Tom Collison and guitarist Jim Maving.
Dean is widely hailed as one of Scotland’s finest singer songwriters, with fans including author Irvine Welsh and BBC legend “Whispering” Bob Harris. Following his recent “UK Song of the Year” win at AMA-UK Awards for his song Southern Wind (the title track of his most recent 4 and 5 star reviewed album), he is delighted to be teaming up with Tom and Jim for a short tour,
Armed with a searingly soulful voice, skilfully crafted songs and earworm-generating melodies, Dean is a spellbinding and hugely engaging live performer. Dean’s music conjures the open road’s wild romanticism, the legacy of the open plains drifters and box-car jumpers, the copper burn of a single malt or a smoky late night bar-room bourbon, distilling the Scottish and Americana into a unique blend of Celtic spirit, country soul.
A Dean Owens gig isn’t just about the songs, though, as Dean is also a witty raconteur, with anecdotes about his travels and the backgrounds to the music – from an 8 album solo career and his days fronting Scotland’s original Americana band, the Felsons – peppered throughout the set. His performance crosses genres, as he takes his audience from tears to laughter to rocking out in the course of just a few songs.

Many singer/songwriters shine in the spotlight, many more have been heralded, but few can match the uncompromising, quality of work Jack Pound has produced over the years.
In the past Jack has been compared to various artists such as Big Bill Broonzy, Mark Knofler and Guy Clark – In reality Jack is simply himself and against all prevailing musical trends has established himself as a low key, songwriting phenomenon.
A quirky, sophisticated, constantly innovative original with a veritable soundtrack to a cinema of songs.

Jack Pound is well known for his tireless and multitudinous careers as musician, cabaret entrepreneur, jobbing builder, local man about town, and on occasion, though hard to credit, a lifeguard…A highly skilled guitarist and songwriter, his bluesy, often quirky style is particularly appreciated by discerning literary audiences…whilst the rest of us just enjoy the music. – John Rice, Poet – South East Arts
Jack Pound is an experienced musician and a busy and enthusiastic exponent of live music. In addition to supporting and/or working with such diverse talents as John Cooper Clarke, Robert Plant, Lianne Carroll, Maiuko Fi and Martin Carthy, he has received complimentary critique from the Music, Arts and Literary Press. – Simon Evans. … funny, serious, sometimes perplexing, sometimes clear. His astonishing individual style stretches across all manner of parameters. – Colin Irwin. Mojo
